Communication – the human connection – is the key to personal and career success.
– Paul J. Meyer
Career talks is something that we felt essential, but we sometimes do not really have a proper idea about it. We might idealized the idea of the right career for us, as we thought the perfect career for us is what we dream of. For instance, we might want to be a celebrity or actor but actually we don’t really have a talent in that, and yet we still see it as the most suitable job for us, but yet doubt whether we can be successful in that field. Then, when you in doubt, why not ask your friend to see their answer? I was in that position before, and I actually realized what I’m good at through the opinions of my friends. In this case, I would like to talk and give reasons about an appropriate career for my partner, Maya.
First, her background and her personalities. Ruhmaya Nida Wahtoni or ‘Maya’ is a dear classmate of mine in BA 3 at President University. She was born and raised in Ponorogo, then move to Surabaya in Junior High School. She is a dedicated person who will give her mind in the things she wants. But, on the other hand, if she doesn’t like or want something, she will not do it even when she is forced. She finds herself as a leader because when she speaks her mind out, people will agree and follow her decisions with her.
Second, she has a experience in business and a passion in fashion. Being influenced by her father who is also a business man, she began to start her own business in young age. In her school years, she established a event organizer business with 5 of her friends, and took on her first clients with zero capital. Her clients are mostly her peers, and from there she gained some profits for her extra allowance. But when she got into college, she stopped her business to focus on her study. She also used to take several fashion design class, and she realized that working in a fashion industry field is her dream, even though she is not really talented in fashion design.
Finally, her potential that drove me into a conclusion. I think Maya would make a good entrepreneur! It is because she already had the business experience that proved that she is good in it. And regarding her dream, I think she also will fit in the fashion industry. Maybe she is not good at being the designer, but she can hire designers and still work in fashion industry. She had a base in fashion designing, and she loves fashion, thus it will be a strong base to open a fashion consultant firms, or maybe in personal stylist firm. She also has a great personality and business ethics to support her dream. Thus, in my opinion, this is a suitable career for her.
